The seamless ferritic alloy-steel pipe, typically referred to as 2¼ Chrome, is a high-temperature, high-pressure pipe. The ASTM A335 P22 specifies a minimum wall thickness as well as a nominal wall thickness, and is appropriate for critical systems exposed to temperatures above 540C, where carbon steel is not considered to be suitable. The pipes are marketed through an Alloy Steel Pipes Supplier & Exporter as a part of its portfolio of Alloy Steel Products and are utilized in various power plants, refineries, and petrochemical industries. It is of high chromium and molybdenum content and has properties of superior oxidation resistance, high temperature strength and creep resistance, which can be used for high temperature applications and for production of Different Grades of Alloy Steel Boiler Tubes.
From the perspectives of performance, Alloy Steel P22 Pipes combine well with the properties of durability and mechanical strength, and their minimum tensile strength is 415 MPa, the minimum yield strength is 205 MPa, and they have good elongation and thermal cycling resistance. The material is also highly weldable and formable, making it suitable for various welding and forming techniques. These pipes are made using hot finishing or cold drawing with subsequent heat treatment, such as annealing or normalizing and tempering, for long-term reliability. Because of these characteristics, they are utilized in high-pressurized steam lines, boilers and heat exchangers, and are offered all over the world by an Alloy Steel Boiler Tubes Supplier & Exporter for critical industrial uses.

To ensure the structural integrity of ASTM A335 P22, specific thermal cycles and welding methods must be strictly followed:
For high-pressure applications, the following process-filler combinations are utilized:
| Welding Process | Specified Filler Metal / Consumable |
|---|---|
| TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) | Union | CrMo 910 |
| SAW (Submerged Arc) | Union S1CrMo2 / UV 420 TTR |
| MAG (Massive Wire) | Union | CrMo 910 |
| Arc Welding (Manual) | Phoenix SH Chromium 2KS |
| MAG (Cored Wire) | Union MV CrMo - M21 |
Due to its excellent creep resistance and high-temperature strength, P22 is the industry standard for:

Contact UsASTM A335 Grade P22 is a low-alloy carbon steel enhanced with chromium and molybdenum. These additives improve the metal’s hardness and strength, allowing it to resist oxidation and maintain its structural integrity even in extreme heat.
The main difference lies in the chemical makeup; P22 contains higher levels of chromium and molybdenum than P11. This richer alloy composition gives P22 superior performance and durability in high-temperature industrial environments.
P22 grade material is recognized globally and corresponds to several international standards. Common equivalents include EN 10216-2, ASTM/ASME A213 (tubing), GOST 550-75, and NBR 5603.
A335 P22 typically has a maximum hardness value of 163 HB. Despite its strength, the material remains highly ductile, making it easy to manufacture into various shapes like round, rectangular, or hydraulic pipes.
These pipes are built for extreme service and can operate continuously at temperatures ranging between 590°C and 600°C. Their high-temperature performance is further enhanced through specialized heat treatments like normalizing and tempering.
