Inconel 601 Welded Pipes

Inconel 601 Welded Pipe, Inconel Alloy 601 Welded Pipe, Nickel Alloy 601 Welded Piping, ASTM B517 Inconel Welded Pipe Supplier In Mumbai, India

Inconel 601 Welded Pipes are high nickel alloyed works that are specifically designed to make them structurally sound in the bio-environment which manifests aggressive gases, acids, and high temperature. The large nickel percentage offers an excellent resistance to a broad variety of corrosive conditions, such as alkalinity solutions and oxidizing agents. Moreover, the chromium element in Nickel Alloy 601 Welded Piping constitutes a sticky protective oxide, which minimizes localised corrosion and oxidation.

Solitaire Overseas is a trusted supplier of Inconel 601 Welded Pipe, so we are guaranteed of remarkably high resistance of our products to any sulfur- and chloride-based atmosphere. Such environments are not used to behavior of standard alloy, and the metallurgical stability of ASTM B517 Inconel Welded Pipe maximizes the durability of high performance with regard to hard industrial arenas.

Advantages of Inconel 601 Welded Pipes in High-Temperature Applications

Inconel 601 welded pipes are of great use in high-temperature applications because of the exceptional heat resistance and retention of mechanical strength even in extreme temperatures, where most other traditional materials tend to creep or deform, and which has lost its integrity. The alloy has good oxidation resistance as it forms a stable protective oxide layer that protects the surface against scaling and corrosion upon exposure to high temperature and oxygen-restricted environment which enhances the service life and reliability. Also, Inconel 601 welded pipes offer high thermal fatigue and creep resistance, dimensional stability and structural performance in unforeseen heat, thermal cycling, and temperature variations, which is very appropriate in industrial requirements that are very heavy-duty.

Inconel 601 Welded Pipe Manufacturing Process

Electric Resistance Welding (ERW) Process

The Electric Resistance Welding (ERW) method is generally used to manufacture Inconel 601 welded pipes. This approach involves cold-forming a flat piece of metal strip or a sheet into a cylindrical form. Longitudinal edges are then welded by electrical resistance heating and forced together under exerted pressure forming a powerful metallurgical bond and no filler material is used.

Different ERW variations are used in pipe manufacturing, with the two primary methods being:

  • High Frequency Welding (HFW)
  • Rotary Contact Wheel Welding

High Frequency Welding (HFW)

In high frequency welding of induction, a coil that is located close to the weld seam produces a magnetic field that creates an electric current in the edges of the pipes. The contact between the coil and the pipe is not physical. The forced current is used to heat the edges to welding temperature and pressure is used to forge the joint.

This method minimizes surface marking, reduces setup time during size changes, and ensures consistent weld quality, making it highly efficient for Inconel 601 welded pipe production.

Rotary Contact Wheel Welding

In rotary contact wheel welding, electrical current is directly transferred to the pipe edges through a rotating contact wheel located at the weld seam. The wheel also contributes to the forge pressure required to complete the weld.

These systems typically operate using AC, DC, or square-wave power supplies. Current is transmitted via brush assemblies connected to slip rings mounted on a rotating shaft that carries the contact wheels. The energized wheels deliver current to the strip edges, allowing precise heating and fusion.

Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) Process

Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) is another widely used method for manufacturing Inconel 601 welded pipes, especially for larger diameters. In this process, a continuously fed bare wire electrode forms an arc with the workpiece beneath a layer of granular flux.

The flux performs multiple functions:

  • Protects the weld pool from atmospheric contamination
  • Generates shielding gases
  • Forms slag to cover the weld
  • Adds alloying elements where required

No external shielding gas is required. Excess flux is collected and reused through a recovery system. Since the arc is completely covered by flux, it is not visible during welding, and heat loss is minimal. SAW offers high thermal efficiency often up to 60% which is significantly greater than conventional manual arc welding methods.

The two main SAW techniques include:

  • Longitudinal Submerged Arc Welding (LSAW) – Used for straight-seam welded pipes.
  • Spiral Submerged Arc Welding (SSAW) – Used for helical seam welded pipes, suitable for large-diameter applications.

Both methods provide strong, high-integrity welds suitable for high-temperature and corrosion-resistant applications where Inconel 601 is commonly used.

Testing & Inspection of Inconel 601 Welded Pipes

To ensure superior performance, durability, and compliance with international standards, Inconel 601 welded pipes undergo comprehensive quality control procedures. These inspections include both destructive and non-destructive testing methods to verify mechanical strength, chemical composition, and structural integrity.
