Inconel 600 Tubes — ASTM B163 Seamless & Welded Tube Manufacturer in India

What Are Inconel 600 Tubes?

Inconel 600 tubes (UNS N06600 / ASTM B163) are a nickel-chromium-iron alloy tube designed to be utilized in both high temperature and corrosive processes like nuclear plants, chemical processing and heat exchanger systems. Solitaire Overseas is a stock supplier of seamless and welded Inconel 600 tubing with EN 10204 3.1/3.2 MTCs with stock in Mumbai that are in 1/8 -30 OD.

Technically, alloy 600 tubing is extremely tough. It has a minimum tensile strength of 655 Mpa and yield strength of 315 Mpa i.e., it can withstand a lot of physical stress before breaking down. These tubes are also very resistant to chloride-ion stress corrosion cracking and can also work reliably in alkaline or sulfur-rich systems. These tubes are available from 1/8” to 8” OD with wall thicknesses from Schedule 5 through Schedule 160.

Whether to use seamless or welded tubing is a matter of choice and normally depends on the application and budget. Seamless Inconel 600 tubing is produced with no joints or seams that give the tubing maximum strength and the tightest tolerances in high pressure applications. Welded tubing is more economical, though also very reliable with most corrosive mediums, and may be manufactured in much longer lengths, up to 26 meters. Both seamless and welded configurations are used across industries from food processing and paper mills to oil refineries and marine engineering.

For boiler and exhaust system applications, Solitaire Overseas supplies Inconel 600 boiler tubes to ASTM B163 with annealed and pickled finish, and exhaust tubing in cut-to-length options with chamfered or plain ends. Value-added processing including annealing, straightening, and hydrostatic testing is available from stock.

Applications of Inconel 600 Tubes

Heat Exchangers & Condensers

Inconel 600 tubes are specified for heat exchanger and condenser applications under ASTM B163 due to their stability under thermal cycling and low scaling tendency. Their resistance to fouling and oxidation maintains heat transfer efficiency over extended service life, reducing maintenance intervals in refineries, power plants, and chemical plants.

Nuclear Power (Steam Generators, Pressuriser Sleeves / Heaters)

Inconel 600 finds application in nuclear steam generators due to its ability to resist stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in high temperature and high purity water. It is also applied in the pressuriser heater sleeve because it has the ability to withstand high pressure and temperature.

Chemical Processing

Inconel 600 tubes are used in chemical processing plants handling acids, alkalis, and mixed corrosive media. The alloy’s chromium content provides resistance to oxidising acids while the high nickel base resists chloride and caustic environments making it a reliable choice for reactor linings, heat exchanger bundles, and transfer piping.

Aerospace & Gas Turbines

Inconel 600 is used in aerospace exhaust systems, combustion liners, and gas turbine components where continuous exposure to temperatures above 800°C requires both oxidation resistance and mechanical stability. Its solid-solution strengthening allows it to retain tensile properties at temperatures where standard stainless steels fail.

Food Processing & Pharmaceutical

Food processing and pharmaceutical industries use Inconel 600 tubes due to their corrosion resistance and cleanability. They can sustain multiple sterilization cycles without the degradation of the surface integrity and purity requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

B163 covers seamless tubes specifically for heat exchangers and condensers with tighter dimensional tolerances. B167 covers seamless pipes and tubes for general corrosion and heat-resistant service. Choose B163 for condenser/heat exchanger applications, B167 for general pressure service.

Inconel 600 seamless tubes handle continuous service up to 1093°C (2000°F). In oxidising environments, the practical limit is around 816°C (1500°F) before oxidation rate increases significantly.

Yes. EN 10204 3.1 MTCs are standard with every supply. EN 10204 3.2 (third-party witnessed inspection) is available on request confirm at enquiry stage as it affects lead time and cost.

Standard stocked sizes ship in 1–3 business days. Non-stock sizes or special dimensions require 4–8 weeks depending on quantity and mill schedule.

Yes. Inconel 600 (UNS N06600) is widely used in nuclear steam generator tubing, pressuriser heater sleeves, and reactor internals. Nuclear-grade supply requires additional documentation including material traceability, PMI, and eddy current testing under ASME Section III or equivalent nuclear quality standards. Confirm these requirements at the enquiry stage.
