Carbon Steel Male and Female Flanges
Carbon steel male and female flanges are always bought in twos. On the one hand, we have a flange with a raised face that protrudes approximately 1/4 of an inch above the surface, leading to the other type which has a recess of about 3/16 of an inch away. Hence, the gap between the recess is where the gasket goes into so that when bolts are tightened, the gasket does not fail. Most of the ones we supply are forged from ASTM A105, or A350 LF2 where the line runs cold, and they are machined to the facing dimensions in ASME B16.5.
Solitaire Overseas is an exporter and stockist of carbon steel flanges, pipes, and fittings. Each flange we sell has an EN 10204 3.1 certificate attached tracing back to the heat. If demanded by the customer, third party inspections are in place.

It is a matched flange pair. One has a raised male face, the other a female recess. The male fits into the recess and holds the gasket in place.
Male and female confines the gasket on its outer edge only. Tongue and groove confines it on both edges, with a narrower gasket.
No. A male face must mate with a female face. Two male or two female flanges will not seal properly.
A flat gasket sized to the female recess, usually compressed fibre, PTFE or spiral wound without an outer ring, chosen for the fluid and temperature.
ASME B16.5 gives the facing dimensions for NPS 1/2" to 24". Larger sizes are made to ASME B16.47 flange dimensions or to drawing.
The male face projects 0.25 in (6.4 mm). The female recess is 0.19 in (4.8 mm) deep, per ASME B16.5.
