A carbon steel high pressure flange is a forged pipe connection component built for Class 600, 900, 1500 and 2500 duty per ASME B16.5 and ASME B16.47, supplied in ASTM A105 forged grade and ASTM A694 high yield grades F42 through F70. These flanges carry heavier hubs and thicker bore sections than standard Class 150 or 300 components, and they are supplied with raised face or ring type joint facing depending on the sealing requirement of the system. Solitaire Overseas manufactures and supplies this range with full mill test certification, and hydrostatic testing, ultrasonic testing or positive material identification can be arranged on request.

The manufacturing route used for a high pressure flange has a direct bearing on its strength and the size it can be produced in.
| Manufacturing Route | Typical Size Limit | Notes for High Pressure Duty |
|---|---|---|
Forging (upset and die forged) |
Up to about NPS 24 inch (DN600) |
Highest density and best mechanical properties, the standard route for Class 600 and above |
Plate rolled and welded |
Up to about NPS 120 inch (DN3000) |
Used for large diameter flanges where forging capacity runs out, quality is a step below forged |
Casting |
Above NPS 32 inch (DN800) |
Lowest cost route, more prone to porosity, generally reserved for non critical large diameter duty |
A: It is a flange rated Class 600 or above per ASME B16.5 or B16.47, built with a heavier hub and thicker bore section than a standard Class 150 or 300 flange, so it can hold a bolted joint under significantly higher internal pressure.
A: Class 600 and above is generally treated as high pressure, with Class 900, 1500 and 2500 used for the most demanding oil and gas, wellhead and transmission piping.
A: A105 is the standard forged grade used across most pressure classes. A694 is a higher yield strength grade, produced in sub grades F42 through F70, chosen when a project needs greater strength for a given wall thickness, commonly in high pressure oil and gas piping.
A: Raised face is common through Class 600. From Class 900 upward, ring type joint facing is the standard choice, since it provides a more reliable metal to metal seal under high pressure and thermal cycling.
A: No. Slip on and lap joint flanges are not recommended above Class 300. Weld neck flanges are preferred for Class 600 and above, as the tapered hub and full penetration weld handle the stress of high pressure service more reliably.
A: Hydrostatic testing, ultrasonic testing and positive material identification can all be specified for high pressure duty. Confirm your project testing requirement when placing an order.
A: Yes. Flanges combining a high pressure class with low temperature toughness requirements, such as ASTM A350 LF2, can be arranged. Specify your minimum design metal temperature when ordering.
