Super Duplex UNS S32750 / S32760 is a new generation of austenitic-ferritic stainless steel which performs better than conventional austenitic and ferritic in all respects. Its distinctive duplex micro fabrication combines the two worlds the hardness of ferrite and the corrosiveness of austenite. Super Duplex S32750 pipe fittings are high yield and tensile strength, high pitting/crevice corrosion resistance, high chloride induced stress corrosion cracking. Elbows, tees, reducers, caps and stub ends, made in this grade, are used to modify direction, branch, reduce or end high pressure piping systems, with high temperatures and chloride content, where no longer reliable are the 300-series stainless steels.
UNS S32760 is almost identical in Super Duplex grade with a somewhat altered chemistry, including generally more molybdenum and other alloying elements. This modification typically leads to an increased number of pitting resistance equivalent and even higher corrosion resistance in specifically harsh chloride or sour conditions, and slightly different mechanical and corrosion behaviour in a particular design case. In practice, the most commonly used Super Duplex grade in offshore, desalination, chemical processing and power projects is UNS S32750 (2507) and UNS S32760 is commonly used when the highest possible corrosion margin is needed, or when new fittings need to be compatible with existing S32760 pipework and equipment. UNS S32750 and UNS S32760 are also similar Super Duplex stainless steels and are similar in microstructure (duplex austenitic-ferritic), and in alloying contents, which are approximately equal. The main difference is in the finer chemistry: S32760 really contains slightly more molybdenum and other alloying substances, increasing its pitting resistance equivalent number (PREN), and perhaps a small advantage in very unnerving chloride or sour environments. S32750 (also known as Super Duplex 2507) is corrosion resistant and strong enough in most offshore, desalination and chemical services. Designers may discover S32760 instead of a project standard where reasonable, and in existing S32760 equipment, or when they need the highest possible level of corrosion margin of service.
Super Duplex UNS S32750 pipe fittings are chosen when the normal stainless steels fail to provide a desirable combination of high and dendritic resistance. They are common in offshore and onshore systems of oil and gas production, injection and produced-water systems and seawater and firewater systems and undersea manifolds. They are used in other areas outside oil and gas such as desalination plants and seawater management systems, chemical and petrochemical plants, cooling water systems of power plants and bleaching circuits of pulp and paper. They are quite impervious to pitting, crevice corrosion and stress cracking in settings which contain chlorides and are consequently particularly attractive in long-life installations where maintenance can not be easily approached to perform the same.

Dimensional requirements are established on ASME/ANSI B16.9 of factory-made buttwelding fittings, ASME B16.28 of short radius elbows and returns and MSS SP-43 of light-wall stainless fittings. The manufacturers typically offer nominal pipe sizes of 1/2 to at least 24 36 NB, depending on the fitting type and the wall thickness will be corresponding to the popular schedules of pipe, such as Sch 10S, 40S, 80S, 160 and XXS. UNS S32750 super duplex fittings are fashioned using seawater and chloride applications. With a chromium content of 2426 percent, huge additives of molybdenum and nitrogen and a duplex microstructure, they have very high pitting resistance equivalent number (PREN). This is equivalent to high pitting and crevice corrosion resistance in natural sea water and brines even in a high temperature environment. Furthermore, the stress corrosion cracking of S32750 is much resistant to chloride in the presence rather than when using the regular austenitic stainless steel. Combined with the appropriate system design, welding processes and commissioning activities, the elimination of the potential occurrence of the leakage, down time and costly replacement will ensure long and predictable service in such applications of the Super Duplex S32750 elbows, Tees and reducer, offshore platforms, desalination plants, cooling water systems and other high-chloride installations.
