Solitaire Overseas is a trusted supplier of SS 347H Fittings of ASTM standards and also an exporter of global standards. We stock all the standard forms and sizes of ASTM A403WP347H and ASTM A182F347H buttweld fittings and forged fittings. The most stringent specification in the niobium stabilised stainless steel family is SS 347H (UNS S34709 / DIN 1.4961). The 347 grade contains a controlled range of carbon (0.04 to 0.10%) as compared to standard SS 347 Fittings, that allow carbon up to 0.08%. The mandatory minimum carbon provides a great improvement in creep and stress-rupture properties above 550°C and sensitisation resistance is still maintained through the use of niobium stabilisation. For allowable stress (higher temperatures) with sensitisation resistance, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code prefers 347H. SS 347H has a controlled minimum carbon of 0.04% (versus 0.08% max for standard 347), ensuring superior creep and stress-rupture strength above 550 C. Both grades are niobium-stabilised for sensitisation resistance. Specify 347H when ASME B&PV Code requires elevated-temperature allowable stresses higher than permitted for standard 347.
ASTM A403 WP347H covers buttweld fittings; ASTM A182 F347H covers forged fittings. ASME equivalents are SA403 WP347H and SA182 F347H for pressure code applications.
SS 347H uses niobium stabilisation, which is retained in weld deposits when using ER347 filler wire. SS 321H uses titanium, which is lost to the weld arc, producing an unstabilised weld deposit. For nuclear service, where both high-temperature creep properties and stabilised weld deposits are required, 347H is preferred over 321H.
ASTM requires a minimum carbon of 0.04% for SS 347H. This minimum is mandatory. A heat with carbon below 0.04% does not qualify as 347H. Always verify the minimum carbon on the MTC before accepting material.
