Carbon Steel Plate Flanges

Carbon Steel Plate Flanges Manufacturer and Supplier

A carbon steel plate flange is cut and machined from flat steel plate rather than forged from a billet, built to ASME B16.5 and ANSI B16.5 for Class 150 and 300 duty in grades such as ASTM A105 and mild steel. This construction keeps cost and lead time lower than a forged flange of the same size, which makes plate flanges a practical choice for general piping, water systems and lower-pressure process lines where a forged flange would add cost without adding benefit. Solitaire Overseas manufactures and supplies this range with full mill test certification, and hydrostatic testing or third-party inspection can be arranged on request.

Applications of Carbon Steel Plate Flanges

  • Water Treatment & Municipal Waterworks: Bulk water supply lines, filtration plants, and sewage treatment systems.
  • General Industrial & Utility Lines: Compressed air systems, cooling water loops, and low-pressure steam lines.
  • HVAC & Building Services: Chilled water loops, hot water circulating lines, and low-pressure boiler piping.
  • Agricultural & Irrigation Networks: High-flow, low-pressure pumping systems and fluid distribution headers.
  • Light Marine & Shipboard Piping: Secondary ballast lines, bilges, and low-pressure drain lines.

Frequently Asked Questions

A: It is a flange cut and machined from flat steel plate rather than forged from a billet, commonly used for Class 150 and 300 piping where cost matters more than the higher strength a forged flange provides.

A: A plate flange is cut from plate and machined to size, which keeps cost down but does not give the continuous grain flow a forged flange has. A forged flange is shaped under heat and pressure, giving it better strength and fatigue resistance, which is why forged flanges are used for higher pressure and more demanding service.

A: Solitaire Overseas supplies plate flanges in Class 150 and Class 300. For Class 600 and above, our Carbon Steel High Pressure Flanges range is the correct choice.

A: ASTM A105 is the standard forged grade equivalent chemistry supplied in plate form, and mild steel plate is also available for general purpose and non pressure critical applications.

A: No. Plate flanges are intended for Class 150 and 300 duty. For higher pressure or elevated temperature service, a forged flange from our Carbon Steel High Pressure Flanges range is the correct specification.

A: Raised face is the standard facing under ASME B16.5. Flat face is supplied specifically when the mating flange or equipment is cast iron, plastic or another non metallic material.

A: Solitaire Overseas supplies plate flanges from NPS 1/2 inch through 24 inch. Contact our team for sizes outside this range.
