Carbon Steel Orifice Flanges

Carbon Steel Orifice Flanges Manufacturer and Supplier

A carbon steel orifice flange is not just a flange cut from carbon steel, it is a matched pair of flanges machined with radial tapped holes on the flange faces so that pressure sensing lines can be connected on either side of an orifice plate clamped between them, built to ASME B16.36 in ASTM A105 and A694 grades for Class 150 through 2500 duty. The tapped holes let a differential pressure transmitter read the pressure drop across the orifice plate, and that pressure drop is what gets converted into a flow rate reading. Jack screws fitted between the two flanges let a technician spread them apart just enough to slide the orifice plate out for inspection or cleaning, without breaking the pipeline joint or shutting the whole line down. Solitaire Overseas  manufactures and supplies carbon steel orifice flanges with full mill test certification, and hydrostatic testing or third party inspection can be arranged on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tap position affects pressure measurement accuracy. ASME B16.36 specifies tap locations so transmitters provide readings consistent with the flow calculation.

Paddle type suits fixed flow conditions and is more economical. Universal type suits variable flow where different orifice plates may be used.

Usually not. A105 suits most Class 150 to 600 metering applications. A694 is useful for higher pressure duties requiring greater strength.

Follow your metering engineer or applicable custody transfer standard. Jack screws allow plate removal without cutting the pipeline.

Yes. A350 LF2 is available for low temperature applications. The configuration remains the same, while material and impact testing requirements change.
