Carbon Steel Butt Weld Fittings Manufacturer and Supplier

As a dedicated carbon steel butt weld fittings manufacturer, Solitaire Overseas produces elbows, tees, reducers, caps and crosses in ASTM A234 Grade WPB and WPC, built to ASME B16.9 dimensions for beveled, weld ready joints. Fittings are shaped from seamless or fusion welded carbon steel pipe and plate, then normalized and inspected to control the carbon equivalent for reliable field welding. Covering NPS 1/2 inch to 48 inch and schedules from 10 through XXS, our butt weld range serves cross country pipelines, refinery units and power piping where continuous, leak tight joints are essential.

Butt Weld vs Socket Weld vs Threaded Fittings

Butt weld is one of three common end connections for carbon steel pipe fittings. Here is how the three compare.

Feature Butt Weld Socket Weld Threaded
Typical Size Range NPS 1/2" to 48" NPS 1/8" to 4" NPS 1/8" to 4"
Joint Type Full penetration weld Fillet weld into socket Mechanical thread (NPT/BSPT)
Pressure Capability High, size dependent Up to Class 9000 Up to Class 6000
Leak Tightness Highest, continuous weld High Lower, thread sealant dependent
Best Suited For Large bore continuous pipelines Small bore welded systems Small bore, frequently dismantled joints

Frequently Asked Questions

WPB has a lower carbon maximum (0.30%) and lower tensile strength (415 to 655 MPa) than WPC (0.35% carbon, 485 to 655 MPa), making WPC suitable for slightly higher stress duty within the same grade family.

We supply both. Seamless butt weld fittings are shaped from seamless pipe, while welded (ERW/EFW) construction fittings are made from fusion welded pipe or plate; both routes are covered under ASTM A234.

Standard fittings are supplied with beveled ends ready for field welding per ASME B16.25. Square or custom bevel ends can be arranged on request.

ASTM A234 WPB/WPC fittings suit moderate and high temperature service, but sustained use above roughly 425°C to 480°C risks graphitization; for higher temperatures, alloy grades such as WP11 or WP22 are recommended instead.

Dual certified fittings meeting both WPB and low temperature WPL6 requirements can be supplied on request; specify your minimum design metal temperature when ordering.

Each order ships with an EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate covering chemical analysis and mechanical test results; 3.2 third party certification and radiography reports are available on request.
