As a dedicated carbon steel butt weld fittings manufacturer, Solitaire Overseas produces elbows, tees, reducers, caps and crosses in ASTM A234 Grade WPB and WPC, built to ASME B16.9 dimensions for beveled, weld-ready joints. Our carbon steel weld fittings are shaped from seamless or fusion-welded carbon steel pipe and plate, then normalized and inspected to control the carbon equivalent for reliable field welding. Covering NPS 1/2 inch to 48 inch and schedules from 10 through XXS, our carbon steel butt weld pipe fittings range serves cross-country pipelines, refinery units and power piping where continuous, leak-tight joints are essential.
Carbon steel butt weld fittings are pipe fittings with beveled ends designed to be welded directly to matching pipe in a full-penetration weld, rather than joined by a socket, thread or flange. Because the weld fuses fitting and pipe into one continuous wall, this connection type carries the highest pressure integrity of the common end types and is the standard choice for large-bore, high-pressure or continuously operating pipelines.
A useful metallurgical note: carbon steel of this type cannot be hardened by heat treatment in the way alloy or stainless grades can, though it can be work-hardened through cold forming. Where softening or stress relief is needed after fabrication, solution treatment or annealing is carried out by rapid cooling after heating to around 1100 degrees C. This is one reason carbon steel weld fittings are so widely specified, nearly all standard welding processes can be used on them without the distortion risk seen in some higher-alloy grades.

WPB has a lower carbon maximum (0.30%) and lower tensile strength (415 to 655 MPa) than WPC (0.35% carbon, 485 to 655 MPa), making WPC suitable for slightly higher stress duty within the same grade family.
Both. Our carbon steel butt weld fittings are shaped from either seamless or fusion-welded carbon steel pipe and plate depending on size and grade - seamless construction is generally preferred for smaller bores and higher-integrity service, while larger sizes are commonly fabricated from welded plate. Specify your preference or leave it to our engineering team to match your project standard.
Standard carbon steel weld fittings are supplied with beveled ends per ASME B16.25, ready for a full-penetration field weld to matching pipe. Plain, threaded or flanged end preparations are available on request for specific joint requirements.
Standard WPB material is rated for continuous service up to roughly 425 degrees C (800 degrees F), with pressure rating tapering off as temperature rises - see the pressure-temperature relationship on our main Carbon Steel Pipe Fittings page. For higher-temperature or more demanding service, share your design temperature and pressure with our team to confirm the right grade.
Yes, dual certification to ASTM A234 WPB and ASTM A420 WPL6 is available on request, giving you flexibility to use the same fitting across both moderate-temperature and low-temperature (down to -46 degrees C) sections of a project, subject to impact-test requirements being met.
Every order includes an EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate reporting chemical composition, mechanical properties and carbon equivalent as standard. 3.2 third-party certification, dimensional inspection reports, PMI reports and third-party inspection (TUV/BV/DNV/Lloyd's Register) are available on request, along with the commercial invoice, packing list and heat-number traceability needed for customs clearance.
Carbon steel weld fittings (butt weld type) are typically formed from pipe or plate and joined by a full-penetration weld, making them the standard for NPS 2" and above. Forged fittings are machined from solid bar or billet and joined by socket weld or thread, and are used for smaller bore, higher-pressure connections up to NPS 4".
